What’s the point of “Rogue irons?

Was goofing around at Dicks today and wandered into the hitting booth to see and hit the latest.

Hitting 7 irons and rather pleased with my newfound distance (new swing) in the 160-170 yd ranges.

Then I saw the new Callaway rogue 7 iron and suddenly started punching them out there 185-195.

I mean, really?

So, I'll only have a 30 yard gap tween my PW and AW I guess?

Wow. I have a pretty decent swing speed and 195y with a 7i still seems like a stretch unless we're talking about hitting in heat at altitude.

The marketing speak from Harry Arnett on the GU podcast was that they're supposed to be longer with "non-traditional" lofts but still through the same height windows. Did you notice if that was true?

I guess the thought is that you'd need to get new wedges (or add one between Gap and PW) to fill the gaps properly.

I think you answered your own question and turned the switch on a light bulb for me - As an OEM if I can create a big gap at the bottom of the bag golfers will need to fill it with premium priced wedges. More money for me!

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

That yardage doesn't seem like a stretch to me, especially knowing that irons like the Rogues, Epics, PXG, P790's and others are really strong lofted and generate less spin. But I also have a 93-98mph 7iron swing speed & carry it about 180-190 with traditional blades and small cavities at sea level.

They aren't really meant to be used in full sets for many people. The new trend is using clubs like those to replace "normal"  3-5 irons for some more distance and forgiveness or to put a graphite shaft in them and use it as a driving iron.

So instead of 3-pw you carry 5-aw.  Does it really matter what is stamped on the bottom?

Distance sells, until we as consumers stop buying in to it there is zero incentive for OEM's to stop making it.
